Default VIN #

I was looking at a 66 mustang fastback today...the Guy saleing it CLAIMS it is a 66 K code car. Here is the deal, The VIN number on the aprin under the hood is different from the one on the door? Which is right? Also the strang thing is the ONLY difference in the two VIN #'s is The one on the aprin has a "T" while the one on the Door has a "K" but all the rest of the two numbers match perfectly? How can this be?

How would I change the VIN number on the HOOD to match the one on the door?

It seems to have alot of the GOOD stuff It apears to have the 9 inch rear end, disk brakes, GT gas cap, trumpet exsuast.....

it is NOT a K code, it was a T code, which is a 200 I6. Read the door tag, it says not for legal idenification, because a door is not hard to swap.

Kevin Marti at Marti Auto Works can create a new data tag, and since the records of 1965 and 1966 VINs were destroyed by Ford, it would be real easy to fake the VIN

If the seller claims it’s a "K" code car, I would walk away from it! He's lying once about the car being a K code what else is trying to hide?
It's a FAKE K code car; he had the door tag reproduced! I wouldn’t waste my time with this guy, I hate people like this trying to pull one over on people, he's a
disgrace to the Mustang community!

Well here is the thing, It has a 9 inch rear end disk brakes, shelby aluminum wheels in the front. 4 speed transmision. The Floors are almost completly PERFECT..maybe they need a patch...just maybe a small one. The frame rails are PERFEFT, the Cowel is PERFECT, The trunk floors need replaceing though, the pasenger quater pannel needs fixing, then the WHOLE car needs to be blasted and primed. But there are not alot of rust holes on the thing really. He wants 7,000.00 for it

Lets say it is a T code car, is this a good deal??? It is to be seen as to wheather the motor is a hipo or not though..

It would come down to it being your call, and since we can't come through the computer monitor and look at the car, it would only be a guess as to how much it is worth. It does sound, however, that there is a lot of rust. Where there is a little, there is a bunch. After you get the rust fixed and the paint job, you are looking at over 10 grand. I personally would not pay that much for a T code car.

OR... you could go see the car again and take a cop with you in civilian clothes. I suspect that the DMV would be very interested to know about any modifications to any cars VIN number. I don't mean to sound like a hardass but...... If he's trying to pull one over on folks he DESERVES to go to jail ! As a bonus the car will be impounded and sold at auction . Maybe you'll get a bargain when the state offers it for sale to the highest bidder. There are a number of identifying characteristics found only on K codes and GT's, some of which are very subtle and often overlooked by people building "Clones" , "Copies" , "Pseudos" , "Repros" , "Rebodies" or just plain old FAKES. Study up on the details. Just my humble opinion, Dean

before you get a cop involved, make sure the guy didn't buy the car like that. he may truely believe it is a k code and not be trying to get one up on you at all. maybe i'm giving too much leniency. i just hate thinking that there are aholes like that out there.

I'd would start looking for another car, what part of the U.S are you in? Are you just looking for a Fastback, any other types of cars you might be interested in, ask around on this site someone might know of a car or two for sale.

It is the VIN on the title that counts. what does the title say? If it is a clean T code fastback built like a K code it is worth 7K.
