Is an 8" rear end enough?

I broke both of mine at the pinion pilot bearing boss. The later cases are a bit stronger but still nothing to write home about.

I'm still concerned about running an 8". We're thinking about an Edelbrock RPM package next year and we'd use the Edelbrock Avenger 650 that we just put on last weekend. What rear end would you recommend for this package?
