Default 4100 autolite vs edelbrock

I'm running an autolite 2100 2bl on my stock 289 with shorty headers. smelled gas from the carb,so I had it rebuilt.Runs better but stumbles above 50mph. Had the choke, idle and air/fuel mixture set but still no good. Thinking of scrapping the 2bl for a 4bl.I've been reading a lot about the 4100 vs the Holley or Edelbrock. It would seem the 480 cfm Autolite is a better carb design then the other two carbs.Even with an updated aluminum intake. I'm going to call Pony carbs but I'd like to hear from some of you. I've gotten most of my info from the Mustang Monthly web site. Did I just get a bad rebuild on the 2bl ? are they better then this? Car is about to become a daily driver.

Well I called the shop who did the rebuild on the 2V and they tell me its a fuel delivery problem NOT the carb as it was wet tested B4 I picked it up. POny carbs says it could be the same OR ignition related. Like timing or total or vacum advance. It stumbles from a dead stop and a lite surging throughout all speeds. gonna tear into the fuel filter/lines and ck the pressure as well. Drop a light on it 6-8deg's BTD,,,right?

Yeah, thats the stock ignintion timing. Also check with your light to make sure that the advance is working
