Default 65 Coupe to Fastback?

Has anyone seen/heard/tried combining the front end of a Coupe with the rear half of a Fastback? I mean... I have a shot at a cheap buck for a Coupe, but am dying for my Fastback... I can get the rear shell of the Fastback for cheap as well, but it basically has nothing from the firewall forward.

Are the front ends of the Coupes and Fastbacks the same? Same width, length, etc. ? Has anyone done this? Thanks for the info everyone. Not sure about a lot of things. This is my first project car.

The front end of a coupe and a fastback are exactly the same.

Yep, the same. I guess if you have good welding skills, you could weld a front end from a coupe onto that fastback body.

Another avenue I was thinking of was getting a Coupe then throwing brand new rear quarters, window and bumper. Using the complete coupe body as a donor... basically everything from the rear of the doors back. Would that work as well?

I have never done it, but I would think you would have to replace the whole roof going from a coupe to a fastback. It would be easier to put a coupe front end on a fastback body I would think.

Roger that. I have found full replacement roofs (new) online from various mfg's. Before I make any decisions on the condition of the vehicle(s) I'm also looking into the market on replacement parts. Exterior paneling doesn't seem like much of a problem, but as for interior, my searches have been coming up a little lean. And wiring diagrams also seem to be giving me difficulties when searching for them.

um, the door glass is different, and so is the rear glass...other than the doors and the floors, there is not one peice of sheetmetal that is the same behind the firewall...all of the interrior trim is different, the side vents in the quarter panel are not reproduced, the rear window was going for $500 used 6 years ago....

I gotcha. So if I'm to need a spare front end, from the firewall foreward... a coupe front end will be exact. Thanks for all the info guys. Makes it a little easier deciding what to purchase.

This is your first project car? What kind of other experience do you have cuz it sounds like your jumping into a pretty big project
