Default what a rear end mess

started to do a rear end swap today and found a good mess, the old 9" housing had an 8" detroit locker inside, now to do the swap back to a 9" locker will have to change axles and driveshaft, guess I should have paid attention to the old addage"look before you leap"

Tell us why you want to change it. Is the 8" locker not working?

The 8" was making a terrible noise, found out why...some of the parts were left out and some small pieces were ground to little chunks and powder. gears were ok, but no springs or spring block

I think if it was mine, I would start all over with new guts to the 9" housing you already have.

By no means am I an expert on diffs, but, I have been looking for a locker for my 8", and the part numbers for the 8"are the same as the 9" ones. As long as they are both 28 spline axles, the kit is the same. Not all 9" came with the 31 spline axles, so you may not have an issue.

Would you mind posting some pics of the 3rd member from the front?
