Default Fuel Problems

Went out thisevening and slapped on some purty new chrome valve covers ( accidenatlly broke one of the bolt heads for the cover off, should this be a problem, it doesnt seem to leak.) but anyways, started the car up and it acted as if it was out of gas. Checked gas level, plenty enough in there. On the the fuel filter, cleaned it, still wouldnt even close to right. Lastly i took a pop bottle and filled it up wit gas and stuck the inlet hose from the fuel pump down in the bottle and sure enough, it purred and ran like a kitten, which leads me to my question, Am i gonna havta drop the tank, blow out the lines?, where should i start, thanks in advance.
