disc conversion
okay, so i tried to live with manual drum brakes but find myself feeling unconfident while driving these southern cal freeways.
i'm looking into disc conversion kits- possibly all corners to disc and with power booster. do any of you recommend a particular kit? i found a kit on ebay for $900 that does all four corners but i'm wondering if there's such a thing as "cheap (lacking quality, not cost) kit" that i should stay away from. i'm aware of the "granada swap" and have several questions about it- do i need special tie rod ends?, what booster to use?, what brake line to switch over to? by the way the car is a 66 coupe. thanks, you guys, for all the help!!

I'm in the process (parts ordered) of doing a Scarebird conversion on my 65. I will let you know how it goes. They advertise 300 to 350 dollars for the front. It appears that mine will be about $268. They supply the brackets. You purchase rotors, calipers, and brake lines from your local parts supplier. ( Auto Zone, O'reilly, Etc.) or online at http://www.rockauto.com/ (much cheaper for rotors) The best part for me is I don't have to change my spindles, which means no change in geometry or allignment, not to mention ball joints and tie rods etc. Here is their link:

I just did the granada conversion on mine for about 250. It worked out really good. As far as the tierod ends, you just have to use the ones off of a granada. If you're lucky you may even be able to find a granada or lincoln with rear discs.
thanks for the help! i like the idea of one stop shopping. tyler, thanks for the lead. their prices aren't bad for parts that are new, remanned, clean, etc.. . . one question though, is there THAT much of a difference between the 2-piston vs. single piston calipers??? i've been doing some reading and found that it's not necessary to convert the rears to disc, in fact the drums are, in some ways, better for daily cars. i guess i need to do more reading and find out about the calipers.. . . . again thanks!
i've read so much in the last few days that i can't remember exactly where i read the article. anyhow, they claimed the rear drums better in some ways(i should've stated that earlier!)- better for parking brake and among other little things (again, i can't remember), and rear discs were not so necessary for daily drivers. discs are definetly considered better for road racing etc. i haven't decided yet for four wheel disc or just front. . . . we'll see
