Default Ignition problem...REALLY weird...

Well when I go to turn off my car today, I turn the key and the accessories turn off, but the engine keeps running! Everything turns off except the engine. I had to turn it off by letting the clutch out and stalling it that way...what is the problem here? I have no clue!

hmmm. Maybe your switch is bad. and unless you have rewired the car, there could be a short. Whatever it is, it is giving the coil power with the switch off. If worse comes to worse. rewire the coil. Oh, and disconnect your battery or it'll be dead, or screw up your coil.

it wont shut off at all, or does it just keep running for a couple of seconds?

This was happening to me a couple weeks ago. It was a short for me. But it could be your ignition switch, solenoid, or a short.
Look really hard for the short. They hide pretty good.

Well I'm REALLY bad when it comes to electrical, so can you explain like exactly where I need to check? The starter solenoid is the one over by the starter, right? And where do I check for shorts and the ignition switch? Is the ignition switch under the dash?

Sorry for asking for so much detail, but I really don't understand electrical very well, lol.

Yeah, if it eventually shuts off, then you have a dieseling problem. If the engine acts like you never turned off the key at the ignition, then the ignition switch is worn out and needs to be replaced.

Okay, that's what I was thinking because I was looking for shorts at the coil/starter solenoid and didn't see anything.

Mine use to do the same thing. I also am Electrically ignorant. I replaced parts until the problem stopped. The Ignition switch was the last part I replaced before the problem was fixed. It is Very simple to change. Just follow the directions. Good Luck. Happy Drivin.
