Default Coil and wiring replacement

1966 Coupe Straight 6

I recently brought my car out of winter storage. It start fine, and ran fine for about a week. Then after a couple of back-fires it would no longer start. The selenoid would click, but that it all. After further investigation I notice the wire going from the ignition to the strart selenoid was scorched, but still intact. Also, the wire going from the firewall to the coil appears to have blown out of the top of the coil. I know i obvious need to replace the coil and the wires for the firewall to the selenoid, coil, and ect. My question is does anyone have any idea of what would cause the wire in the coil to blow out of the top of it? The wire post looks to have just been ripped out of it. Any ideas, I would prefer this not to happen again, so was wonder if the back-firing had anythign to do with, i doubt, but jsut a thought.

Thanks,

That's a very strange thing to happen. A pure guess would be that your coil blew up internally. I would not only replace all the related wires, I would replace the coil and starter solenoid.
