Default Please help with tranny problem.

Hey all i have a 289 with an auto trans and just got a TCI 157 tooth 28 oz. flexplate. When i am manually cracking the engine the weight on the flexplate hits the teeth (bindle) on the starter and stops, even though the starter is retracted completely. Do i need a new starter? The flexplate is brand new and torqued down to specs, therefore not tilted at all. Some one mentioned to me that the problem is that the weight is too close to the teeth of the flex plate and should be more toward the middle does anyone know of any flexplates with weights in the middle and not by the teeth? Any and all help is appreciated, thank you for your time.

Does any one have an externally balanced flexplate or flywheel for a 289 that is a 157 tooth? if so what type of starter and flywheel/flexplate did you use?

Another question are 289's internally balanced or externally balanced? If you have a 289 what year is it and what type of flywheel/flexplate does it have? internally balanced with no weights or externally balanced with a weight on the plate itself.
