Default Rally Pac tachometer problem

Hi,
My name is Robert and I live in Luxembourg (Europe)

I bought a 66 Fastback and now that I wanted to connect my Rally Pac which I bought some days ago I have the following problem.

I connected the red wire to the IGN on the ignition coil, and as soon as I connected the black cable to the ground of the car the engine stopped running [&o]

Whats the problem or is the tachometer gone ??

Best regards from Europe
Robert

Hi,
From what I understand that is what the problem was with the old tachs. If it went out your car would die. I bought a used rally pack and had a new tach put in. I got it done here. http://www.redlinegaugeworks.com/gallery/

Hi Robert welcome to the site..sorry I don't have an answerto your question but I will follow close and hopefuly some others have some more info..I also have a 66 FB and recently I purchase a raly pack, according with the po it was complete rebuild, but I will know better after the installation.
PS as probably you know all the bastbacks go for a lot of money here in specialy the 67 and 68s, did you purchase yours in Luxembourg? how much they go for over there.

Is there a safe way to test the rally pac, especially the tach, before installing it?

No highjack intended.

@289FB,
Hi Hugo,
I found a wiring diagramm on the net so I can try now if the Rally Pac works or if I already killed it by using the incorrect wiring.
I bought my car in Belgium, the guy who owned it bought it in 98 in California.
Most Mustangs in Luxembourg are imported from the US mainly California,Arizona and Nevada due to good try weather.
Mustangs especially the Fastbacks are getting very expensive.You know the american prices for a good car then you have to add a 1000$ for transport to Europe by ship plus 10% customs and 15% VAT on the bill that you paid for the car.
Most parts you need are also ordered in the US because they are here hard to get.

@Smothers,
You can't test the tach, you have to connect it in the car

Best regards
Robert
