I have asked this very same question of the forum to see what people have been using. There are many mfg out there but, all I can tell you is what I'm going to use. I'm going with a FORD PERTRONIX BILLET DISTRIBUTOR for my 289.. Everyone has there own reasons to use others like MSD, mallory or some others. For simplicity and cost effectiveness, you could use a PERTRONIX module in place of the points. Simple and easy to install..

I'm no expert, but I like the Mallory Uni-lite I'm using on my recently rebuilt 289. No points, no controll box and easy install.

Slickman,

The subtle changes you made to that '66 really make your stang stand out. What's the prognosis on the white dye-job on the black vinyl? Any chance it will bleed thru? The wheels are very clean.

Thanks for the kind words.. So far no sign of any problems at all with the black showing through. Still looks as nice as the day I did it. Its all the small details that make a car stand out. I try to pay attention to that when I can.

I personally like msd, I installed the msd 6AL box, Distributor, and Blaster 2 Coil on my 302 in my 66. But if you are going for inexpensive it is not the way to go. But is fairly simple to install and definitely worth the money. But this is just another opinion, good luck with your upgrade.
