Default Backfire

I was working on my '65 289 A code, I put in a Pertronix Ignitor and Coil. When I put the Cap back on and start it up the idle is much higher and now is a little rough. Do I need to reset the timing? Also like a moron I tried to start her up and I forgot to put the Distributer Cap back on. I gave it gas and a little choke. When IO figured it out and put the cap back on, I started her and it blew my eardrums and my mufflers out! What else did this damage?

Thanks for any help!

You could have blown out your power valve..... i think those are on holleys. Did you set the gap right for the pertronix? You may need to adjust the timing again.......

I believe its the autolite 4v. I took it out last night for a drive it runs strong except for the loud exhaust. I set the gap on the pertronix to the 0.03" spec. When I put it in Park and let it idle it bounced from 500 to 650 on the tach. Do I set the initial timing to 6?

Thanks

thats what they say for timing. I usually advance it a tad. I think your idle is alittle low isn't it? I think it should be more around 850 when in park, but im not sure. You did use the plastic feeler guage included with the pertronix right? i metal one can mess it up.
