electrical problems of the worst kind
Hi All! I need help in the worst way. I have a 1965 Mustang that has been abused by some shade tree mechanics over the years. I am nearing completion of a restoration, but now I have encountered some serious electrical problems. The MAIN problem is somewhere down the line someone installed an unknown wiring harness (maybe not even Mustang). I added a Flaming River tilt steering column and that created many problems most of which were fixed except the horn (which I can live without). Before restoration all of my gauges worked, now they don't. The coil gets extremely hot with the key switched to on. The front turn signals blink the way they should except when the headlights are on. Can anyone tell me the coil wire trail, coil to solenoid to what? The wires from the rear of each gauge, where does each one go from the gauge itself? Is there a resistor wire that goes to the coil? If so, where does it start and where does it end? If it helps, a very knowledgable Ford man told me that most of my under dash electronics seem to be from a 68. Any help would enable me to put this car on the road again and would be MOST appreciated.
nice diagrams, i think i'm gonna need them too. if you're willing to spend a few bucks and re-wire the whole car, i'd tell you to get a painless kit. sometimes it's just easier to just re-wire the whole thing than to try and hunt down a problem and you listed 3 problems, plus the horn. personally, i wouldn't have the patiance to sit there and hunt down the problem. Gl with everything.
I agree, go get a painless wiring harness and be done with it.. The amount of time you will spend trying to figure out some AH's idea of a fix, you could have installed a new harness.
