Default Which oil weight?

I use 10w30 right now but I believe my rear main is leaking a little. So Im going to up the weight to slow it down. Any suggestions on which weight to go with? I've been 10w30 my whole driving life...so I know nothing beyond it. [&:]

I don't know if thicker oil is your solution. Tried tightening the oil pan? Be careful not to go nuts, it's light torque (not sure the spec but like 10 #) but it could be the pan seal and not the rear main. Wipe it off and see if you can tell where it actually comes from after a short drive. See if it runs down the pan or the inspection plate in front of the trans. Good luck.

You might try an oil change and use 20-50. If that stops the leak at the main then maybe you really need to consider getting the rear main seal replaced then go back to your 10-30.

That was the idea until I got the money to fix the rear main. Its like a little puddle in my tranny flywheel(missing inspection plate) and its on the underside of my drivers side floor pan. I'll double check the oil pan to make sure though. Thank you both.

They make some snake oil that is supposed to soften up the seal to help it seal better. That most likely won't work, but worth a try. Otherise, just put a pan under the car when you get home so it doesn't leak on your driveway until you get the moolah to replace the seal.
