ORIGINAL: Smothers

Just a few squirts of WD40 and you should be good to go
That's what I was thinking!

The first thing I would do would be to pull that engine and take care of the rust issues you have. Then, decide how much money you want to spend to upgrade. You are looking at several thousand dollars to upgrade to a V8. Engine, front suspension, rear end, rear suspension, wiring harness and various other parts......and if you want to change from the C4 to a a manual shift, another thousand or so. It can be done, but you will be upside down regarding value when it is done.

My friend was telling me something about an automatic transmition that you put on the first gear an when it revs to when you want it to rev you pull the lever and it switches gear.
but, besides that, what would be a good auto trans with the 302?
A stock C4 with a STOCK shifter will do that. Just put it down into low. It wont shift out of first still you pop it back into drive. That means the transmission you got already will do that.

It's alot of work swapping from a six to an V8. I would put a 302 or 351 W. They fit, and they got lots of parts. it's also not to easy to find parts for a auto to manual swap.

from the looks of that "car" it looks like a lot of work period.......

As the old saying goes, "where there is a little rust, there is a lot of rust." Again, pull the engine and the carpets out and assess the rust damage. If the frame rails are shot, you will not have a safe car to drive no matter what you do to the engine. If you have frame rails and floors, then overhaul the engine, clean up the engine compartment and overhaul the brakes.
