It's alot of work swapping from a six to an V8. I would put a 302 or 351 W. They fit, and they got lots of parts. it's also not to easy to find parts for a auto to manual swap.

Its really a factor of how much you have to spend and how fast you want to go, one of the easier swaps to make would be to buy a wrecked donor car and use a 302 with a good auto trans, then you would have lots of the minor parts you will need to complete the swap, things like crossmember, radiator, wiring harness, alt, and lots of other minor parts, good luck with the swap

umm hmm so if i dont swap to manual, and stick with auto, and go with the 302 i'd be easier for me due to hard to find parts....

So i'll find the 302, and look for a good auto trans.

My friend was telling me something about an automatic transmition that you put on the first gear an when it revs to when you want it to rev you pull the lever and it switches gear.
but, besides that, what would be a good auto trans with the 302?

Thank you very much for the help so far, i really appreciate.

There are a lot of differences with a 6cyl car -vs- and 8 cyl. Suspension, rear end gearing, driveshaft. Not just and engine swap. Also, 4 bolt pattern wheels. All due to stress and power. Since you are already wanting to change it, it does not matter that in 1966 the only V-8 standardly provided was a 289. It can be done. You can do whatever you want. It is all a matter of time and money. Just cover all the bases so you don't break the car!
