a tuned turbo 4 (like an SVO) can get 30mpg, an a 35 gallon tank, and one could drive about 1000 miles at a time. 2 fuel stops is not unreasonable actually

I have done that once...running 70mph behind a 57 wagon....if they really tuned the Turbo 4, you could go about 35-40 mpg...say about 1300 miles, do a one stopper?

Back in the 40's or maybe early 50's, a guy invented an internal combustion engine with a special carburetor that got like 100 miles to a gallon. The big oil companies paid him big bucks for his idea, and the car was never produced. I have no doubt that it is very possible, but the oil companies are just making too much profit to allow it to happen.

Perkins desiel engineand a 100 gallon fuel tank, Jim ryder built a maveric some years back with the perkins engine and could get 55 mpg outta it, bout 60 gallons of fuel would get you there, but boy will you need to take a leak at the finish. The perkins is usually used to run the refridgeration units on produce and meat hauling trailers, they are made to run for days without stopping.

My grandfather bought a new 1985 escort and it would get 55 mpg on the interstate. My parents bought a new 91 festiva and it would get 50 on the interstate.

a steam type engine (V8 spec.) that's powered by an air compressor. ungodly hp and tq and no emissions. jay leno had one a 2 cyl and he was able to hook it up to a 125psi air hose and power it that way. from what i remember that 2 cyl steam motor has as much or close to the tq and hp of a v6 (or poss. a v8) of today because has a power stroke up and down, instead of just having power on the down stroke. and the fact that you can run it on air (technically) allows you to have ZERO emissions. as for getting a strong enough and big enough AC to do this is another story.

i call dibs on MF project car #2- the "steam powered classic coupe" who's with me?!

How much water are you going to need though to go that far without stopping? It took Limburg a few days to cross the Atlantic. I wonder how much fuel he was carrying and what kind of fuel efficiency that aircraft engine was getting.
