what are the differences between new and old 302's, are there parts to dont intertwine? im new to ford, well hell anything with a carb in general lol

The main difference is the balance. The old ones used a 28 imbalance, and the mid 80's on up have a 50 oz. imbalance.

but the block, technically, is the same? you can take and old block and put new internals in it without a hitch right?

yes just the new blocks are drilled and tapped for the hydraulic roller lifter hold down. You can use a retro fit kit for an old block if you want to run a hydraulic roller cam but the available cams in the retrofit category are all small base circle cams which are terrible at high rpm, really tough on valvetrain

really doesnt matter as you can use a solid roller lifter which each two lifters are linked together, new roller 302 motors the lifters are not linked together rather they use a bolt down holder that looks like a spider and holds the lifters in their bores

yeah, those are the ones that came with the block i bought, i think it was a 90 302ci. it had teh spider looking things.

yep that holds the link bars down which hold the lifters in their bores from spinning
