Nope, it looks for a sudden voltage surge as far as I know. When ever you turn on any light or anything for that matter, there is a sudden voltage change or current draw. Some look at the currect draw, this one look at the sudden voltage change.

Well, let me explain why he said that. I told him I wanted it to work so if I left the windows open and someone opened the door, the alarm would go off. He felt (and he hasn't actually seen THIS model, just similar ones) that since my car door would set off one light inside, and other models that do this work on current cars where 4 interior lights go off, that it may not be compatible with my car.

Check your battery Pammie. You should be putting out at least 12 volts. Mine is putting out 12.71 volts with the engine off. If you are putting out 12 volts, this unit will work just fine for you.

ahh I see now. To check your batter you just need a volt meter

You need a multi-meter. Set it for DC voltage. Put the red wire on the + of your battery, and the black wire on the - of your battery.. The meter will tell you what voltage you have.

Thanks!

I can pick up one of these gizmos at any auto supply store, right?

4 auto supply stores until I found one, but one offered to check for me and I was at 12.81 with the engine off. I then went to my old favorite auto supply store and they offered to check as well and I was at 12.95.

I purchased the meter but haven't tried it out yet. It checks battery, alternator and a few other things. Probably makes dinner, too.

Then that alarm should work just as good as mine if you have it located in the right spot.

I got one of those 15 buck alarms from Slickman, and installed it today. It took me about 3 nano seconds to put it on, and man......that thing really works. I can just touch the car and it goes off. It works really, really great. Contact Slickman to see if he has any more. You won't regret it, but put it where he tells you and not on the battery. Or, PM me and I can tell you where to put it.
