Default RING JOB ON 289

can someone give me a rough estimate of about how much a piston ring job would cost (including parts AND labor) at a local garage or engine shop? its a v8 289 out of a 67 fastback. i dont believe it has ever been rebuilt before, but i cant afford a full rebuild. i need new rings though. plz give me an estimate. thank you.

I suggest you do it yourself. It really is not all that hard, and you will be better off money wise and satisfaction wise. Get some books such as this and tear into it.

I just priced out a ring and bearing set (both rod and mains) with gaskets. $275 from a local parts store. Thats for a H.O. motor so I'm positive yours will be alot cheaper.

doing a ring job isnt that tough to do, and at least in a 65 or 66, it can be done without pulling the block out of the car, its tougher to do that way, but if you dont have the tools or cherry picker to pull it it can be done. , remember to take care of the ring grove at the top of the cylinder before putting the pistons back in.
