Default Wont idle

OOOOkkkkk, ive got the 351W in my 68 coupe. I cleaned up the wiring and all that funs stuff. Now my problem is, when i started the car this mornin to take it to the muffler shop, I had it runnin but i had to keep my foot on the gas, then it quit, and i couldnt get it started again. When ever i tried after that it would try to start and you could hear it firing, then some times it would backfire back through the carb and I would quit crankin it. What could be the problem? Im sure my firing order is good, the carb is a motorcraft unit, there is a vacuum port on top of the fuel bowl, do i need this for something?, I have it plugged right now. The carb came off a 302, it has the electric choke on the side, instead of the other kind you see on the early 2 barrels, anyone seen these before or worked with them, I know even if the idle mixture is off and the speed it should still idle somewhat right? Please some feedback, Soaring you are the 2 barrel guru, any ideas appreciated.

Thanx

Could be a few things here, Timing might be off! It could be points, thats if you still have them! Or the idle speed needs to be raised!

NVM, i figured it out, the rotor inside the cap was brand new and the tang that conects to the coil electrode, and the one that hits the wire electrodes fell off, thats why it wasnt starting. Thanx anyways boys
