Default My engine wants to run?

well i got every thing done to my car and tried to start it today and i have spark fuel and compression, but when i tired to start it sounded like it was missfireing bad and backfireing in the carb. i have the fireing order right with 351's being the 137... insted the 302's and all being 15.... I think my timing is off but what should i do and how can i make sure? Im used to chevys by geting #1 in top dead center and the rortor pointing to number 1 on the cap on the compresion storke. is it the same on fords? lol srry im kinda more like a chevy guy but i love my mach1 also.

It is the same but you know the distributor rotation on a ford is counter clockwise right?

Make sure you have the number one plug wire on the number one spot on the cap, there is a mark on top of the cap to show where the rotation starts

well i worked on it today and it starts up preaty quick but it backfires on the carb and runs rough like its going to explode lol. well the fireing order was right on the money and the engine turns and has realy good compression on all 8 cyl's. so i pulled off the cap and turned the engine to #1 TDC and the rotor was pointing on the number one plug wire. so i think it just need some timing adjustment. so i lossend the dis hold down clamp and tired to move the dis and i could not! i got preaty agressive on it with a pry bar and it still wouldnt budge so i sprayed on some WD-40 on there and im letting it sit over night and hope for the best. do you guys have any tips or words of wisdom? lol
thanks for your help and time guys

Yea...don't bust it! A pry bar? You know the housing is pot metal or aluminum. You can use a tool to turn it but not a pry bar. That is leverage not twisting or turning. Fina a wrench to match the flat spot on the shaft. Oil fiter wrench on the larger portion. Something, but I do not thik I would use a prybar. Just my 2c worth. Good luck. How loose is loose on the hold down. Take it off if need be.
