Default Wheel spacers/adapters?

I went to America's Tire Co. yesterday to fix a nail in my tire, and while I was waiting I decided to ask about the price on some black bullit rims that I've had my eyes on. The guy there said their fine as long as they fit the bolt pattern I have right now. So I told him, "I'm pretty sure I'd have to get wheel adapters or something because a lot of guys with early model mustangs put late model wheels on their cars". He gave me this end ease look, and then he said he doesn't trust wheel adapters. He said they can fall off and mess with you're offset. Then he went on to say how he put some adapters in his old trans-am and how it sucked because it made a lot of noise and some viberation. When he put the right wheels on there and took off the adapters it ran smooth. So, my question is too all you guys out there that have already put late model wheels on ur old mustang. what's the proper way to do it?

If you are buying from a wheel place they should be able to sell you the wheel you like with the proper back spacing so you won't need adapters/spacers. If you are buying take offs you will need spacers. I'm running 05 bullits and a 1 1/4 inch adapter with no problems. 1 1/2 was recommended but I got away with 1 1/4. If you go that fat you want the type that is in my pic. You do not want the ones that just slide over your existing studs.

I've got some spacers behind mine to accomodate my granada discs, and there's no vibration or bad effects. Smooth as can be at 60 or 70.

I got them from ebay. The sellers name was ezaccessory. Good guy to deal with. I think the 03 backspace is different than the 05 so don't go by the 1 1/4 that I went with.

Hey 67t5 I am wanting to put the stock 17" wheels from my 06 Vert onto my '67 (basicly same as you) Did you use the 1 1/4'" adapters both front and rear? Also could you tell me your tire size on those wheels? Are they the stock 235x55x17 Pirelli that came on the 05/06 GTs? I will be running 255x45x17 on those wheels (slightly shorter then the stock '06 tire but an inch wider) Thanks 05SDI

I have a set of wheels off the v6 `05 Mustangs on my 67 and I needed to run spacers in the front. The back bolted up perfectly but the front has 1"(i think thats what it is) spacers and I need to make a small notch in the flange on the passenger side cuz it lightly rubs in right turns...

They are the stock perrilli tires 235/55/17. Be warned though, I got the 1 1/4 to work but the front rims are very close to the upper ball joint/A arm. Less than 1/4 inch away. Baddog that car has to look strange with spacers in the front and nothing in the back. Seems like the back would look too far in. Some pics.
