Default Drive shaft lenghth

ok so i did a t5 swap and they say i need to cut the drive shaft one inch. i mounted the rear to the u joint so i could see if it was an inch and more. It looks to me like i dont need to cut it, the yoke is out one inch from the tranny. here is a pic to see, i think all i need to do is get new u-joints. So you think there is enough space if i hat a bump and my suspention goes up?

That's good if your rear end is at actual ride height. If it's not, put jack stands under the rear axle, and get a couple of big freinds in the back seat, and maybe one in the trunk (or what ever it takes to get the rear end to proper ride height. If you are still at the same point as that picture, or up to 1/2" further out, you are good to go.

If it was me, I'd feed better about it there was some more play in it, about half way, so your suspension will be able to travel completley and have to worries of the driveshaft hitting the tranny

That would smart. Get the car on the ground so that all the weight is on the tires. Crawl under it and take some measurements. Measure twice, cut once. You are going to need some play, so figure that into your measuring scheme.

Don't forget that the differential actually moves backwards as the springs compress, which is why there are shackles on the back.
The picture he shows, mirrors my car when checked at actual ride height.
I used a zip tie to measure the travel after installing it, and it doesn't come close to bottoming out the yoke. I had my driveshaft built (for the upcoming V8). So the measurements and resulting drive shaft were done by professionals.
The key will be if that picture was taken at proper ride height.
