If you are worried about time, split the job in half. Do one axle at a time.

That is why to need the parts off the car and buy them locally. Any good parts store is going to have them. You don't need to order them.

welcome to another episode of "Restore Your Classic" today we will talk about why you can never get the right parts for your calssic the first three times you order them. Because people are dumb and don't know what they are doing. no one but the select few buddies you have on that forum you live on, know what they are doing. next week, how to propertly lay a beat down on the pizza faced kid working behind the counter when he hands you a civic part instead of the dominator carb you ordered! don't miss it!

If you are also replacing the shoes, yes it will take like 3 or 4 hours to change everything, assuming your wheel cylinder is not leaking. That will cause you to have to overhaul it, put everything back together, then bleed the brakes. But, if you are just replacing the drums, that's a piece of cake and takes onlly minutes. You could also go to a parts place on the way home from work, and get the new drums, making sure you have the right to return them for a refund if they don't fit. That way, you wouldn't have to take the wheel off but once.

We use Advance Auto parts, they usually get it right, Napa gave us 2 different ignition switches before we finally got the right one. We now take in what we have and match it up. Lesson learned. We only order a part from a catalog if we know it will fit and if we don't have to have it done right away.

i have never had a problem with advance giving me a wrong part, but have gotten bad stuff from them. i was working on my step dads truck a while back problems with the battery not staying charged. i said off the bat it was teh volt reg and pop's wanted to try the alt. we got three bad alternators from them (the kid said after i brought the second one in "we just got a bunch of bad stuff from our supplier". i'll give them the benifit of the doubt there.) also had starter solenoid that was shot from them and 2 beat volt regs. lots of "bad stuff from the supplier" in one shipment. pop's took it to the shop and it ended up being the volt reg. Yeah, Pops are dumb. I know......'cause I are one. However, this Pop learned years ago that when you replace the Alternator, you automatically also replace the VR.

well i never said he was dumb. he had taught me MANY MANY life lessons and some wood working/home improvement things.

the truck had had a few previous problems with the alt's and the prob at hand also could have possibly been because of the alt. hey, i don't pay rent, so what he want's done, gets done! LOL!

Good attitude! Ya' know, I have about the most wonderful son in the world. Everytime he comes to visit, he asks if he can do anything around the house. He usually ends up mowing the grass and weed eating. Damn, I love that man. Yeah, he's 31 and a 6'4" 230 lb. hunk of a man. We don't arm wrestle anymore.
