startor still screwed?
ok ive bought a new ignition and key switch had my startor tested and still am having problems getting this figured out ...is their a main difference between auot and manual startors? and if their is what r they like i said this car cam with a 3 speed and over time somone put a c4 in it and now i have put it back to its original manual trans only i put a 4 speed in it. Now heres the confusing part the key switch is an original replacement factory switch but when u turn it on to the start position it immediatly tries to start u dont have to turn as far as i think u should . like a normal vehicle the keys has a spring action so to say this doesnt it just click onto the on position and fires...confusing? ok now then i have taken the startor off and tested it myself on the battery and it works fine..however trying to crank it with it still hooked up but not on the trans .. seems like it gets hardley any juice? and barely turns another ? is i have a wire on the back of my ignition i screwed this connector to it is that correct? or does the stub on the back of the igniton have nothing go to it.my startor solenoid was purchased just a few days ago and it has been cranked on a bit ..seeing as im getting this thing going ..now im thinkin maybe ive got somthing not grounded correctly ? the startor doesnt have to be grounded correct because it grounds itself right?
It looks like the wire that you put on the stud on the back of the ignition switch is for the starter. That wire Doen't go on that stud. Disconnect that wire, turn the key to on and see if it still wants to start in the on position. Also let us know what the color code on that wire is.
also make sure that the battery clamps are clean, the wires going into them are also clean. If it ismaking a clicking sound then they arent clean.
Some cheap remanufactured starters will spin just fine on a bench, but wont actually spin an engine on 12 volts. You could have a POS starter...
