Default Spittin' Carbeurator

My carb is shooting fuel out of the top when I try to start my car. It only does it when the butterfly is closed, and when I choke/open the butterfly it stops shooting fuel but the car still won't start. I just need some ideas of how I can fix the problem and get my car started. Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Usually when a carb is spitting fuel it is due to a stuck needle and seat. Never seen one do it with the choke function as you said. A good carb rebuild is in order. Short of that try tapping on the carb with the handle of a big screw driver. Some guys will use hammers but you don't want to break anything. That may unstick the needle.

yeah, and it also sounds like the reason it won't actually start may possibly be due to flooding out the intake. from what i gather you are shooting fuel into the carb and from there to the intake and cylinders. now, too much fuel and you won't gett a good enough spark to kick over. but try what 67t5 said first, that's the main problem you have. from there you can worry about getting it to turn over (and by fixing the carb prob, you should correct that anyway.

The carb is fully rebuilt with new floats and is still doin it. The fuel is shooting out of the front air vent...theres pressure comin up the intake and blowin fuel back out, would a stuck intake valve cause this?

It could also be ignition if the carb is set up right. Double check your firing order and timing.

If you are talking about the air vent in the front bowl it almost has to be a stuck needle and seat or an improperly adjusted float.

one quick question, lets say you ONLY press the accelorator and you DO NOT try and start the car, do you still have the fuel spraying out? if so, it may be something was installed wrong on rebuild or if not, possibly a stuck valve (valve open, piston pushes up, forces air thru intake and back out thru the carb). but try checking your firing order first. that did the same thing on my 200ci. i was adjusting and my mom was turning the key. i told her to start it, she hit the pedal, fuel sprayed up i barely had time to move my face away from the motor! ended up burning all the hair off of my arm from my knuckles to my shoulder!

ok, so timing is rite now, I had it startin on 8 instead of 1 but its still doin the same thing...and yes fuel comes out of the jet when I just hit accelerator. If I hav a valve stuck open is there a quick and easy way of fixin it wtihout pullin it all apart?

Sorry, but no quick fix. If the valve is stuck open it's time for a valve job.

well, i must disagree here Glen. a "quick fix" qould be total replacement!

how hard is it to rebuild a carb if i was to buy a kit? my 1bbl needs it B A D ! i found a single bbl for about 150-175 and don't mind spending the money cause i have never rebuilt a carb before, but now that i am thinking about it, i think i may be able to do it.
