What If?
What if a Windsor was stroked to 400/408 and clevland heads were put on it...how hard would it be for mainly chevy people to know if it was a 400m compared to a 408 windsor?
If they know the difference between a Windsor family engine and the 335 series, then they'd have no problem (the 351M and 400M are 335 series engines...aka Cleveland, same as the 351C, Boss 351, and 351HO).
Adapting Cleveland heads to any Windsor engine is a pain, mainly due to the availability of intake manifolds, or lack thereof.

well i was wondering because of racing...the cars im involved with are allowed to use any heads that are made by the companys (Ford Chevy Mopar) but they have to be small blocks. So if a 351c is a small block and its a 335 series just like the 400m it seems like we should be able to run that like the chevys can run 400's. I thought that if we wanted a 400m we probably could get to race it besides the big block bell housing bolt pattern. The best 400m i could come up with would be a 408 windsor with clevland heads, but how obvious would that be compared to a normal 400m.

it needs to be all cast iron with all ford parts, no strokers but you can run 400's if they are factory 400's. but since the 400m's are junk the 408w was an option, but you cant get caught with a stroker. just wondering, not actually going to do it.
