Default black interior

For those folks with black interiors, what have you done for the top part of the doors above the door panel - paint seems like it is going to be very hot in the sun. Putting fabric seems tacky in more ways than......... Is there anything that can be done to minimize the black paint - being in los angeles, this could produce burns

you mean on the inside of the door? i know they make something that goes over the lip of the door, a pad of sorts, that you can rest your arm on. another thing you can do is stop fat arming it out the window! LOL! JK!

i have a car with a tan interior and when i had my 89 it had a black steering wheel. i would cover them with a towel or tee shirt to keep the sun off them (a light colored cloth works better as it doesn't absorb the heat). covering the door may be a bit harder than the steering wheel, but you should be able to come up with something. like sew a piece of metal or something heavy into the end of the cloth and rest that up against your window from the inside. than your only challange is closing the door. well, [&:] that seems like more trouble than it's worth don't it? [&:] hmmm, i dunno!

Paint it another color? A little accent paint can really liven up a monochromatic interior. The color depends on what else is in the car and the exterior color. Silver is a common choice, but a blue-anodized look could also work.

well, more than the color, the heat getting inside the car is what really heats things up. i have a light tan interior in my DD and it get's hot as sin in there and even the steering wheel is a PITA to hold sometimes. blocking the sun and covering things you will be touching will help a ton.

The problem I have is the aluminum shifter **** in my Mach that gets so hot it hurts to try to shift when it has been sitting in the sun. I have to put a cloth over it to keep it from burning my hand. OK, here is a pic.

I had thought about using a very thin black fabric (maybe crushed a thin velvet) and glue it to the metal part of the door but this is a little on the trailery side - I am going restomod though so it might not be that bad (on a stock or concours car, this would be absolutely ghetto)

that would help, but again, it's black and will absorb the heat and still be hot when you get in the car. not near as hot as the metal, but only half solves your problem. not a bad idea tho, don't get me wrong.

Soaring, is that original? Did you deface a modern Mustang?
