Default Would you replace bumpers with reproductions from a catalog?

I'm debating wether to send the original bumpers on my 66 convertible off to be straightened and rechromed or purchase new reporductions from a catalog. What do you think?

Hmm..it kinda depends. Is your car fully original already? Are the reproductions fiberglass? If yes to either of those, I say keep the originals and get them worked on. Have you been quoted a cost for that? Maybe the price difference could help you decide a little better.

It will cost a lot to have your originals straightened and rechromed, but that would be the best way if you have the funds for that. However, some of the repros are OK. If you can find the ones made in Japan and shipped to Seattle (Nordan brand) , they are double chromed and better than most of the others. I have repros on mine that I put on about 10 years ago, and they seem to be holding up pretty well. I did have to take them off here lately and POR 15 and paint the underside silver because they had surface rust on them.

It is far cheaper to get rerpoduction bumpers, and no one can tell the difference anyway.

My car is nearly all original. So, I would really like to stay with the original bumpers. Any suggestions on where to send the bumpers for reconditioning if I choose to go that route? Any other brand names to look at in reproductions?

Thanks for your opinions.

they don't look too bad. i little sag at the ends, nothing major and the chrome looks like it's still good. is it just the rear that needs to be straightened? cause like i said it really doesn't look that bad to me, least not bad enough to spen the bux to straighten and re-chrome.

Both the front and back bumpers are bant a little. They both still have good chrome though. I'm trying to get the car ready to sell and the bumpers are kind of ugly when looked at closely.

oh, i see. well i guess the pic hid something. well, i don't know of anywhere to re-shape them and re-chrome them, but if you are going to sell it anyway, personally i'd go with repros, the nordans. it would be a heck of a lot cheaper than what you are talking about and if they ask say, yeah, they are repro bumpers. be honest about it. you really shouldn't los a huge amt over something like that and i doubt they'd ask anyway. GL!

Honestly I would keep original unless your bumpers were like mine and stopped the car with help from a pole/tree.
