Shifter Linkage and Install
Well i'm going to purchase a new shifter linkage setup pretty soon. The 2 places that i'm wondering about buying from are:
1. Texas Mustang with thier $350 Hurst Comp Plus Kit for 65-69's
2. CJponey Parts with thier $320 Hurst Kit for 64-73's.
My concern is that my mustang is a 69 But my Toploader tranny is out of a 71, so will the Hurts Comp Plus from Texas Stang not work?
Also Is there a difference between the Hurts Comp Plus and the Hurts shifter? Or are they just listed differntly but are the same thing.

Take the top of the shifter apart from inside the car. Easier to jack up the trans and get the crossmember out of the way but you don't have to. Three bolts holding the shifter to the trans tailhousing. Three nuts holding the shift levers on. Go back together the same way. It's pretty easy. 2 hours with no problems.
You can leave the tranny in place.
The shifter will work, whether or not it will fit in your floor pan is a different question. The '71-'73 models used the long tailshaft version, I don't believe any Mustang models prior did. You can replace the tailshaft and output shaft with the correct ones by going through a house that specializes in TopLoaders.
