For normal driving they are fine but if you like to light up the tires it will blow quickly. there is not enough meat around the pinion bearing. I personally think they are junk. I've already blown one and have since quit taking my car to the track at least until I get my 9"
allright, it is going to be my main means of transportation and id be going to the track every once in a while
ive heard you can mounnt 8.8" rearend disc brakes on it though so i want to hang onto it, but i can get a 67 cougar 9" pretty easy too
stuck between a rock and a hard place

I have an 8" in my '71. It runs low 13 second quarter miles at 5200 feet. I don't really launch at high rpm's (around 2k) as I use street tires and not any form of drag tire. I have had no issues with my 8". If you want to improve it's strength, check out Currie Enterprises. They make just about everything you'd need.
Also, a 9" or 8.8" will require more of your engine's horsepower to turn as well.
