The air shocks are not a good idea because if you have them pumped up, they will punch a hole in the trunk area where they are attached. Get a set of KYB gas adjust shocks for all four corners. It will improve your ride and your suspension performance a lot. Yes, there are better shocks out there such as the Koni's, but at a considerable cost above the KYB's.

Are the KYBs actually adjustable or are they "self-adjusting"?

KYB Gas-a-just are "self adjusting". They are high pressure and offer a fairly stiff ride.
Balancing the shocks to unsprung weight, and tire sidewall stiffness can make a big difference in ride quality and performance. On a coupe or fastback with stock rear end, and a wheel size 16" or less the Gas-a-just are probably the best bang for the buck.
For my convertible with 235/45-17 and stock springs they ended up being too harsh, so I changed over to the GR-2. A less expensive low pressure KYB shock. These made a huge difference in traction on rough roads, as well as ride quality.

If someone wants a set of rear KYB Gas-a-just shocks for cheap, I'd sell the pair I took off for $50.00 plus freight. They have about 200 miles on them, and still look like new. I also have the new bushings still in wrappers with them. They will come in the GR2 box as I threw away the original boxes.

I have KYB gas adjust shocks on and stock springs. Would let you know how it rides, but the car hasn't moved since the install.
