Default Transmission Interchangablilty

I have a change to get a mid 70's AMC Pacer. It is a 6 cylinder 4 speed. The guy tells me that it is the same tranny out of a Mustang. Is this true and is it a good ol' toploader 4speed or some Mustang II tranny.

If it`s a tranny that came with the car it`s neither a Ford Toploader or a Mustang II tranny.

The Pacers came with two different Chrysler auto`s, and three manual transmissions. A Tremec 150T 3-speed, Tremec 150T 3-speed with external overdrive, and a Warner 4-speed, Warner Model SR4.
The Warner SR4 was optional in the 6 cyl Pacer. (This is not the Borg Warner T-10 found in the Shelbys!!).
Now I can`t tell you that the tranny in this guy`s Pacer won`t fit your Stang, but unless the Pacer has been rebuilt with a Ford engine and tranny, you don`t want it.

I looked up the tranny interchange in the Hollander interchange manual and didn't see any mention of AMC Pacer as an option for a Mustang...might want to re-think that offer...

I just can't believe there is someone here that knows so much about Pacers. That is strange.

I rode in one one time. Does that mean I know something about them. That was AMC's answer to the VW bug. Super cheap car that got decent gas mileage back in the crunch days. Pretty much like now, huh?

Well, thats what I was afraid of. The guy told me that a long time ago he took the tranny to be rebuilt and the guy that done it told him is was the same parts as a mustang transmission.
