Default going from points to electronic ignition?

hello, what do i have to do to make the change! distributer, wires and what else? is there a electronic ign. coil or what? my car runs great. but ive had trouble in the past with some 73 fastbacks and just want to beat the trouble. i had one 73 mach that was backfireing bad. i couldnt figure it out? it kept burning the points up. i changed distributers, points, wires, retimed it. did everything i could thing of at the time! sent it to a shop they did everything i did and more. to make a sad story short a coil wire can cost alot of money when you dont catch it quick!

For the pertronix system, there are basically two ways to hook it up. One is to follow the directions that come with the module, and just put the red wire to the + side of the coil, and the black wire to the - side, and the ignition wire to the + side. If you are using a 12 volt coil, that will work. However, if your voltage drops below 7.5 volts, the module will not work.
The other way is to run a wire from the ignition switch to the module, therefore bypassing the pink resistor wire, and giving you a constant 12 volts at the coil all the time. If you also get the flamethrower coil you can open the gap on your spark plug a bit to give you a little hotter spark.

I've never heard anything bad about Pertronix. However, I have never invested in one.
I have had good luck with the Ford Duraspark II. The wiring is no doubt more involved and the module is large, but it works great. And it's a Ford part.
