I built a 29 Mercedes SSK back in the 80's, and after I got it built, I had to take it to a weigh station to have it weighed, then after that I registered it as a 1978 Mustang, as that was what was the running gear in it. Sound stupid doesn't it?

That is strange. Was it built on a mustang II chassis?

I would think you could register it as a 67. DMV doesn't track older cars like the newer ones, so as long as you piece together a unique VIN and get the data plate made to match your VIN there should be no problem. At least thats what I'd do.

register it as a 67? that wouldnt be too smart, what if you were in the market for a real 67 fastback, made in 67, not a new kit car. the new kit car, being registered as a 67, is being sold as a 67, you buy it believing it is a 67. you just got conned[8D]

it has to pass a safety check. it would be registered the year the engine was manufactured or the year the body replicates.

I.E. '66 cobra kit car is registered as a '66

it's a california state bill. I don't know the details, i'm sure it limits the number of cars you can build.

it's a little different out here, unless i'm mistaken. i had a buddy of mine do up a jeep with a 350 block and the chassis was from one year and the tub body was an newer year. he had to register it as whatever year the chassis was. also there's 2 lambo kit cars and the inspection stickers both say ponitac fiero, the body used to bolt the lambo kit to.

EDITED for ebonix.

Guys, you must know, It would be cheaper to find a real 67 Fastback. It's not a kit car, it's just a body. It's not cheap. Then you have to buy EVERYTHING to put on it. I was looking how much it took to build the 69 Camaro, and if im remembering right, it was 39,000+
