Default Toasted engine

I recently purchased a 1965 ford mustang coupe for 5k very hot blue color .... unfortunatly the owner didnt tell me it had a problem with the water pump... i drove it off the lot and in 20 minutes the radiator overheated i took it to a mechanic and i was told it probably sunk a baring.. it turns over but doesnt sound right he recomended i get a new longblock.. this is my first muscle car so anyone have any ideas on what i can drop in and will fit with the original auto transmission and headers?

what are your plans for it? do you want a lot of HP to play with or do you want something tobe a good daily driver. The best fit is a 289 or 302 they are for the most part the same block. You can get the 351's to fit but will be tight. If its HP you want all of thoughs engines are available as storkers.

OK, you drove it off the lot, so therefore it was running, but after 20 minutes it heated up. The mechanic told you something about a bearing. I am totally confused. Did the engine seize up after driving it for 20 minutes? I don't understand your problem.

he probibly got from one of thouse shady places that like to hide rod knocks with 90 weight gear oil. My cousin bought one like that about 20years ago he made it about 20 miles before the engine threw a rod.

Ha no i got it from an original owner he is 80yrs old and he got it for his son the engine ran just fine actually i did not however see that he siliconed the waterpump on the engine instead of using a gasket for it i took 20 minutes into driving it it started making a whistiling sound when i got on the acelerater so i stoped and the thing idled a bit then stalled out.. we couldnt start it after that we got it to a mechanic friend of ours and he put it on a battery charger and turned it over it he said it sounds like it sunk a bearing the pistons are firing but we dont know what kind of damage was done the oil smells burnt bad !!!!! so thats the situation
