Default 72 center dash panel

Does anyone know how to disconnect the heater controls from the center dash panel? I need to restore this panel (get it out of the car). There's no ac, just the heat. The main problem for me seems to be the 2 cables that control the vents. There's a 5 prong plug that i've unplugged from behind the fan control and a couple of red wires that I have not messed with yet. It would be nice if there were a couple of screws that would allow me to just leave the control where it is. Thanks.

the cables have a round locking disc to hold them in, just pry them off with a screwdriver

Thanks. I was looking at those, but they looked kinda permanent.

I was looking at mine trying to figure out how to remove it a few weeks ago then I just gave up. I had all the screwws out but it still seemed attached, but I could not figure out where. Could you provide some detailed steps on how you got yours out and what needed to be un-screwed from where, maybe post a few pictures. I need to replace the switch on the AC/heat control for the fan speed, it doesn't work. and I get very little air flow in the car except from the windows, which doesn't help on a hot day at lo speed.

Thanks
