my plan of attack
Since my interior is currently gutted, do you think i should take the time to clean up the floor pans. I must first say that my floor pans are solid and there is no obvious rust damage, but id like to take this time to take a more thourough look so it doesnt hit me down the road. I was thinking about buying acouple 4 1/2" sanding disk (10 bucks), primer (10 bucks), seam sealer (20 bucks), cheap rust proofer since it isnt bad (30 bucks a gallon), dynatmat(110, might as well :P) and my carpet which i already have...so, i could do it under 200 bucks which seems good to me.. any advice?
You aren't going to need a gallon of rust encapsulator. I got a quart from Ace hardware cheap and it covered my whole trunk floor, and I still had about a pint left. The stuff is called Rust-Away. Works great. You probably won't need that much seam sealer either. A can of primer, and maybe two cans of color and you should be good to go.
I have a surplus city right down the road and a gallon was the smallest they sold it in i think. Ill take another look and stop at Naylors, but i dotn think we have an Ace hardware here.
Quick question! Why are the plugs in the floor near the rear seat metal instead of rubber?

I just finished welding in new floor pans in my 65, I also found a huge crack cutting across my frame rail --got it all lined up and welded --we'll see what happens.
But about your pans --yes definitely do it, if you don’t have rust now that’s great! But take action and prep it for the long haul while you can. Its easy too --I’m doing it now then throwing the new interior in. I’m just giving another good sand, then sealer, then encapsulate, followed by primer and paint -- will take me one full day --maybe 2, but well worth it while your interior is out --even though the interior really does come out damn easy on the older Mustangs
Anyways --just do some sort of evasive move on the rust --Good luck.
