torque boxes

Default torque boxes

ok, so what does a torque box do? my passenger side box is a little rusted and i am replacing part of the floorpan so i need to remove the box. but what does it do? do i Really need one? if i do, can i get one cheaper then $60 a piece?

The torque box adds strength to the body undercarriage. Verts had to have them, but not until 67 did they appear on the coupes and fastbacks.

Honstly if you have access to a Welder and some scrap metal you can make your own pretty easily.

Honstly if you have access to a Welder and some scrap metal you can make your own pretty easily.
i was thinking about that too, i can get metal and im getting my welder tomarrow. then i need to wait for my sheetmetal from mustangs plus.

i was thinking about that too, i can get metal and im getting my welder tomarrow. then i need to wait for my sheetmetal from mustangs plus.

If you are getting the welder tommorow then make sure to pick up some good welding magnets at the same time. Those things will save you so much hassle on a daily basis.

I don't know your skill level with a welder, but this is a great oppurtunity to hone it in a little. If the box doesn't look good(welds are splotchy)then gring and redo. Remember only a part of the box will show while you're under the car, so you're the only one who will know how the top side of it looks.

So how much body work have you done this far? Have you swapped out the quarters yet and if so how much and were did you get them from?
