Default Disc Brake Conversion

I'm leaning heavily towards converting my 68 Mustang to front disc brakes. I was interested in hearing from anybody with experience as to how difficult of a job this is. Currently, the car doesn't even have a power booster and just drum brakes all the way around. Any advice would be appreciated.

I put the Granada conversion on mine. I left it manual. It wasn't a really difficult swap. About one Saturday. It cost me about $350 in all.

It all depends if you get a kit or if you search for parts a junkyards. I got a kit from http://discbrakeswap.com/ for $550 and installed it with one hand. Not too difficult to install. Could have done it in a weekend with two hands, but I recently broke my arm so one is all I had.

I installed the Baer front disk brake kit on mine and it was 1300.00 US but the kit was unbeleivable easy to install, it only took about an 1.5 hours and that was installing a new master cylinder.

I got all new stuff from SSBC it has gas slotted rotors and 4 piston calipers and all the extra stuff to mount them and new master cylinder. It cost like 800 or something but they have been great. I can stop from 40 mph to 0 in less than 15 yards drums in the back. I’m running semi metallic pads.

It took about 2 hours to install the rotors and brackets, brake lines, and master cylinder and like 2 more hours just to get the damn pressure fittings to screw into the master cylinder and proportioning valve (man I hate those things) [:@]

You should be pretty happy with whatever you decide and your probably not going to need any booster its just not worth the space loss/trouble IMO, you just dont need one.

I also got the kit from SSBC. I never thought it would have been sooo easy. The instructions were the best i've seen. I had my unlce fab up some lines to hook the proportioning valve up, otherwise I did everything else. Well worth the money.

I also had manual drums all around, now I have 11" discs up front and drums in the rear.
