Default Exhaust wrap for headers

Thinking about wrapping my headman long tube headers with this stuff, hoping it will reduce some noise and heat inside the car. This add says it will even add some HP, although noise and heat reduction is really what im after. Anyone have experience with this stuff (not necessarily this brand) and have an opinion good or bad?

Man, time flys when you're having fun!
I used the original stuff when it first came out for a set of headers in a jeep CJ5. Really did a nice job, but was expensive as hell. Lasted for about 3 years before the headers started rusting through. Headers were easy enough to replace, so we wrapped up a new set and kept on... Jeepin! The jeep belonged to a friend. He sold it a couple of years after we put on the second set of headers. Made a big diference in temperature on the firewall/toeboard and starter, as well as cut the noise considerably. We were really methodical in the wrapping. They came out looking really nice. Of course once they got muddy it wasn't so pretty.

I think I'd jet coat, or buy jet coated headers now though. I wouldn't have a problem doing a short wrap on a single tube, but I don't think I'd spend the money to wrap the whole header.

At the time it was more fun just acting like a red neck, yelling "Hey ya'll watch this", then grabbing a header tube. Some of us simple minded folk just never really grow up Oh, and if your header wrap gets wet...don't grab it while it's hot!

Thanks for the reply Scott. I never thought about having the opportunity of freaking someone out by grabbing a header once they're wrapped! I don't know what "jet coat" is but i'll check it out.

I had my old headers wrapped and I does cut back on heat, I used sodium silicate to bind the wrap together, it works really well no wires or anything.

The only problem is the wrap becomes very brittle after is it heated so make sure you wrap it very tight because the stuff will not flex once heated and any gaps will cause weak spots because there is nothing to support it.

If you have to remove the header chances are you will break the wrap.

I was thinking on wrapp the headers on my 68 Bronco but after reading that the water condensation will cause the heathers to rust I decided not to do it..that question is very common on 4x4s if you like more info go to www.classicbroncos.com and look on serch under heathers wrapp.

Yep, I've also heard wrap can make your header rust out a lot faster. I guess headers are not that expensive these days, so the reduced temps may be worth the shorter header life.

Thanks for the comments guys. I think i'll go for it since I currently have my headers off & they are really nothing special, so I don't mind risking a shortened life span do to rust.
