Default best cooling fan?

when i did my rebuild and upgraded my horsepower - i experienced overheating with my stock fan. so, i installed a flex-a-lite 1300 series fan that flattens out at higher rpms. now, i run cool around town but when driving on the interstate at 70 plus, i overheat after about 10 miles. after reading the article in the FAQ section, i'm thinking that as the rpms increase and the fan "flattens" out, it blocks the flow of air through the radiator and over the motor - causing me to overheat at highway speed. i think i want to trash the flex blade and go with a fixed blade fan. any suggestions on a good, high flow, fixed blade fan?

i have already changed to a 3 row radiator.

No, what you want is a clutch fan. At highway speeds the air makes it turn but it doesn't flatten out blocking air flow. But, as you slow down, the clutch engages and the fan starts drawing air.

Just get an electric fan. I have one on my 5.0 ranger cuz thats all that would fit, it works awesome. Considering the rad in my truck is about half the size of a stang radiator. And yeah the flexalite fans kinda suck IMO, my friend had the exact same problem you did.

i would try a clutch fan or an electric fan. can either of you be more specific and refer me to a specific fan or type of electric fan?

Here is some information on the clutch fans. Most Mustang vendors will have them. Texas Mustang has them for 61.95.

The electric fans are great upgrades too. Just make sure you check out the amperage pull from the fan so you don't have to upgrade the alternator to one with more amps. I have a mechanical fixed 6 blade fan on mine, and it works just fine with my overflow tank, shroud, and 4 row radiator with Water Wetter and a 30-70 mixture of anti-freeze/water in it. My water pump is stock. I never get over 1/2 way on my heat gauge even with the air con on and stuck in stop and go 100 degree traffic. But, if you are running a flex fan, and heating up at 70 MPH temps, you either need the gas saving clutch fan, an electric fan, or a mechanical fan with all these other goodies.

the 30 -70 is 30 antifreeze and 70 water, right?

how does the overflow tank work on a stock stock radiator? will the radiator actually suck the coolant back in like it does on newer cars? all i have is an overflow hose.

Yes, the 30/70 is anti-freeze to water mix. Be sure you use distilled water. Go get an overflow tank from autozone, pep boys or whomever, and tell them you need a 13 pound radiator cap designed for the overflow tank operation. Yes, it will work exactly like it does on your newer cars with overflow tanks built into them from the factory.
