600 HOLLEY HELP
HELLO, i just put a holley street dom. and a 600 holley on a 69 fastback with a 302. i got it all together and when i turn the motor over the carb shoot gas out of the top of the carb in front of the butterfly. its been about 20 years since ive messed with this kind of job and have simply forgotten alot of what i used to know about old cars. does the gas shooting out the top mean the float is stuck or might have a hole in it, or i guess the needle&seat could be stuck open? am i on the right track here? advice or opinions whould be helpfull! this carb had been sitting about 6 months.
the butterflies are at the bottom, i guess the top is called a baffle or ? anyhow im pretty sure its a lined up right. but the gas ie shooting out the top of the carb out of the hole infront of the wing nut.
Your floats sound like there stuck - is this a new carb? On the new Holley's you have to take off bowls to adjust. Bowls come off and turn upside down and the float should be parrellel accross bottom. If it has sight adjuster and adjusting screw on tope - pull the sight plug off and if gas come out when running difinitely need a float adjustment or they are stuck. Do some searches on Holley and float adjustments - lot of good info on the web.
The "butterflies" on the bottom of a 4V carburetor are called the secondaries. The butterflies on top are called the choke butterflies. Use the handle end of a screwdriver and tap the side of the carb to get the float to turn loose. Sounds like it's stuck to me.
