Looking at a nice 69 Mach 1 Q code. Now I think I know the difference between the R code and the Q code. I believe that it is within the motor! but I wanted to find out for sure.
Anyone know anything about production numbers on these?

R code = Ram Air. Q code - no RamAir.

Both are factory 428 cobra jets, the Q code just doesnt have the Ram Air assembly known as the "SHAKER" which protrudes through the hood. The Q code has a fake air scoop mounted on the hood. the distinct sound made by the shaker is what sets these bad boys apart.

 

The R was rated at a little more horsepower from the factory too, I think.

 

No, the Q and R are rated the same horsepower. Doesn't make sense though, does it?

Yeah, you'd think they'd at least say it had 15 or 20 more horespower.

 

The Q code is the rarer version. The R code probably made about 5 more hp.

 

I found where there were 13, 193 Cobra Jets manufactured in that year, but can't find a break-down of how many Q's and how many R's there were. And, all the sites I found stated they both had the same exact horsepower.

Has everything I like except the Shaker!
