Leaking toploader?
OK, so now the darn 4spd toploader leaks, and BAD. [:@] It looks like it's leaking at the gasket between the main case and rear housing. So here come the Q's:
First - what kind of oil do you use to refill it?
Second - how much do you fill it?
Third - how can you tell if it's in need of being refilled?
Fourth - how do you refill it (i.e. do I need to take off the top cover - and can that be done with the tranny still in the car)?
and Fifth - is there any additive I can put in there to stop/slow-down the leak?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

1st) 75W-90 gear lubricant
2nd) Approximately 2 quarts
3rd) There is a large plug on the passenger side of the tranny case. Unscrew it and stick your finger in. You should be able to touch oil. If not, its low.
4th) No you don't have to remove case cover. You can buy a plastic pump & tube that screws to the top of the bottle/jug of oil. The other end of the tube is slid into the same plug hole used to check levels. Then pump away. I purchased mine @ Schucks for around $8.00.
5th) Don't know off hand, but David Kee is the Toploader guru. www.davidkeetoploaders.com He usually is the one who answers the phone at his business (in Texas I think). He is also is pretty good at responding to email questions. I'd ask him.

If it is leaking BAD, then you are going to need to replace the gasket before you start thowing money away just to keep your driveway soaked in gear oil. Secondly, After you get the gasket in, then refill it with synthetic 75W90 gear oil. You do not have to add an additive with synthetic oil.
