Okay...I know virtually nothing about coils so any info is good. Since they're fairly cheap and I had to take mine off anyways, should I buy a new one? What exactly should I look for and what are the advantages of the new ones? Also, are there any additional parts I would need to buy?

Do you think that the coil is bad? and if so why?

I wouldn't worry about a new coil until you upgrade the engine or the old one goes bad. Then, go aftermarket. What you get will depend on your modifications. I generally run Accel Super Coils, but they are not easy to locate inside some engine bays, and definitely don't look original. Accel and MSD also make some chrome coils that are good for stockish engines and add a little shine.

No I don't think coils are bad. I noticed that the MSD coil was the same price as the repro one though so what advantage does it serve?

if its the 45k Volt then more voltage. but probably wont do you much good unless you have 8.5 - 9mm wire

It would still work though right...just not to its fullest potential?

Just stick the original back on there if you just have a stock engine. My car still has the original 38 year old yellow top coil that still works great

Yeah I could do that but I figured that since they're so cheap, I have mine off (it's only one bolt), and I'll probably upgrade my distributor sooner or later that I might as well buy one now.

Unless your going to upgrade to one of the high voltage coil just leave it alone. Just replacing a good one serves no purpose.

Ok...so if I get a 45k then can I leave the rest of the ignition system stock for now and upgrade later?
