The stock coil puts out some where on the order of 17k volts. If you are running points the best that is going to get to the engine is 12k or so. You would be better off with an electronic drop in like a pertornix or something if you are still running points.
Just keep running your old one for now. If and when you upgrade your ignition system to electronic, then dedide which coil you will need. For instance, if you upgrade to the pertronix Ignitor II system, then you would also need to get the Ignitor II coil if you want a hotter coil. No sense in getting a hotter coil now and risk burning up your points.
here's a trick to look stock...go with a Pertronix ignition kit and get a black coil....Krylon school bus yellow is a 98% match to the origional color!
