Which way to go
I have in my posession a 67 coupe, i dont know which way to go with it. Currently i have the engine in the shop for a rebuild, and i tore out the Automatic tranny and have located a 4speed for it, but as for cosmetics and intirior i dont know what to do. Classic? Modified? give me some ideas please. Thanks
You could go for a day one resto...basically restored, but with aftermarket goodies similar to what you would have done if you bought the car new. Generally, this would be period wheels and exhaust. Possibly a carb upgrade and some eye candy under the hood. It was also popular to raise the rear of Mustangs to get rid of the stock saggy butt.
I'd definitely go modern on the suspension/brakes, for safety's sake.

Well i know what im doing under the hood, Moderate Cam, .60 oversize bore on my 302 block (same block as 289). when i have the cash, 4bbl carb with complimenting intake. Basically i want to take the performance part as far as i can, without making it a stroker(they get ruined with around town driving). personaly i dont think the stock wheels/hubcaps look good at all, a set of cobra wheels would be great exept i dont have the 1500 to put down on those
(keeping in mind that i am 17, i do not have an unlimited money source). Where can i get a brake conversion kit for a reasonable price?

and u can just do the interior semi stock....might wanna get a sound system that u can hide in the trunk and have the old controls look still.......nice new steering wheel too.....

I recommend going for the more restomoding type of improvements and I'll tell you about my experience with my mustang so you'll understand. I got my 67 mustang when I was 16 and it needed a lot of work, still does in fact. At first I decided to go for the restoration route and make things look original. However my mustang was originally an I-6 with a manual and one of the previous owners put in a v-8 and an auto transmission along with a lot of other newer stuff including a ratchet action shifter. I put all of the more orignal stuff back in including the original shifter. Looking back on it now I kind of miss the ratchet action shifter and even though it all looks fairly original absolutely none of it actually is, and since my car will never be absolutely original ( the original engine and tranny are who knows where, the interior has been redone at least 3 times, etc) I figured I should lean towards updating it making uniquely original for me and my tastes, a mustang that was not original for the 1967 model, but original and unique as in no other mustangs out there like it. Now granted it is a work and progress and will probably take quite some time, just like everyone's projects, I think that in the end you will be more happy with the car if you make it your own instead of worrying about making it original, but hey thats just my thoughts, and I am sure that there are many guys on this forum that completely disagree with me and think you should restore it to original!

I'd have to agree here. The only thing I wish I would have done is went w/ better gears. According to the door jam, I'm running 2.80's. Not bad for cruising, it just leaves something at launch time.
We're in a kind of similar situation. I'm 15 and have a '67 coupe and I'm restomodding pretty much the entire thing without cutting any of the original metal. I think a new sound system, gauges, etc. are great as long as you don't ruin the car and it can be restored back to originality in the future.
Make a Protouring car out of it. Make it corner awesome, stop on a dime, run hard, and be as reliable as a new car. That is what I have done to my car. I can sit in traffic on a hot day, run it on a road course and drive home. Or go to cruise ins, car shows or just play on the street with it. Tons of fun to be had with a car setup this way. Check this website out to get a better idea of what a protouring car is all about!!

I only read the responses until i saw Terlingua. O.M.G They build em (i think) around Dallas Mustang not to far from me, They've always got one or two in the shop hangin around. I talked to a guy there named kenny to see if he would make my 65 coupe a terlingua, they are freakin SICK! I WILL own one someday....someday...(stares off into the sunset)
